Consignment Goes Reality TV, Finally!

I'm not sure if you're been watching one of the newest reality shows to hit BravoTV called "Fashion Hunters" on BravoTV Fashion Tuesdays at 10:30pm (PST). It's all about a fashion consignment store in the Nolita neighborhood of New York. The staff scours the city for designer brands they can resell at discounted prices. Sound familiar? They search the closets and attics of New York City's elite and not to mention a few celebrities to find the hottest designer finds, returning to the store to sell it to the downtown hipsters or socialites looking for their next "big" purchase.

When we saw the previews for the show in early September on BravoTV, the OQS staff got excited and thought why didn't we think of this? Well, maybe we didn't think of this exact idea, but we did know creating a commercial featuring our in-house expert fashion stylist Kirsten Prosser, who is no stranger to world of reality shows (Danske Hollywoodfruer), discussing some of the great finds at On Que Style would be a hit.

The commercial it's just a glimpse of the some of the luxury designer handbags, apparel, shoes and accessories we offer at On Que Style. Luckily the day of the filming we recently received three Hermes Birkin handbags which are also featured in the commercial. Hermes Haute a Courroies - The Handbag That Inspired it All

Last week, we received two amazing iconic handbags by Hermes called the Haute a Courroies or HAC.

It wasn't until I did a little research that I found the history of the handbags are also amazing and inspired the Kelly and Birkin handbags. Here's a little history on Hermes:

The Hermès Luxury brand has been in continuous existence since 1837, when they were primarily a saddlery or sellier. In 1892, Émile-Maurice Hermès, grandson of the founder Thierry, introduced the Haut à Courroies or HAC for short, which translates loosely as "High Belts", referring to the belt straps that are used to close the bag. Over the years the HAC has been produced in various sizes from 40cm - 60cm and is primarily used as a travel bag. Famously, Humphrey Bogart carried one that is on view at the Hermès Museum.

In the 1930s, inspired by the new desire for ladies handbags, Hermès introduced the "Petit Sac Haut à Courroies", which was a smaller, single handled bag, which retained the closing straps of the original HAC. This bag became popular in the 1950's when Grace Kelly started to carry it and was famously snapped by a paparazzo, while she tried to hide her pregnancy behind a large black crocodile version. A short time later, this bag was renamed the "Kelly", in her honor.

In 1984, when famous French songbird, Jane Birkin found herself seated next to Jean-Louis Dumas, then President of Hermès, she took the opportunity to express the lack of a great leather travel bag for women--she pointed to the straw tote she had resorted to using. Dumas returned to the workshop and modified the HAC to Ms. Birkin's comments, making it both smaller and shorter, but with longer handles, enabling it to be carried in the crook of the arm. The end result was delivered to Jane Birkin, creating the first "Birkin". Every year she receives a new one as a gift from Hermès and donates her old bag to a charity auction.

One of the biggest handbag trends for this season is the structured handbag. For years we’ve been breaking our backs and shoulders to carry some the biggest handbags in the history of fashion. At onQueStyle, we have become well known for our fabulous trunk shows featuring designers such as Pucci, Fendi and Versace. While we love the classic labels, we also like to support up-and-coming designers before they get picked up by the Neiman Marcus's and Barny's of the world. This Thursday, December 10th, we will be hosting a very special event with one jewelry designer that we know will take the fashion world by storm.
The Julia Post Fine Jewelry Collection was created by long time Newport Beach resident, Julia Post. Julia has always had a passion for fashion and design. She will be premiering her fine jewelry line featuring precious stones and statement pieces. Below she tells with us about what inspired the collection, what pieces she loves and how it all started.

onQueStyle: What is your backround? When did you start designing?

Julia: My background is in interior design but my love for fashion has
always been a constant in my life.

onQueStyle: Tell us a little about your jewelery line. What inspired you?

Julia: My collection of vintage jewelry pieces found in my travels throughout
the years and my love of Italian and French houses have
inspired my collection.

onQueStyle: What kind of woman do you design for?

Julia Post: This collection was made for the woman who wants a timeless, statement
piece in her jewelry collection that can be passed down and enjoyed
for generations to come.

onQueStyle: What is your favorite piece and why?

Julia: I have several favorites. My starfish cuff with black diamonds and
mother of pearl detail is so unique and beautiful. My black diamond
earrings are classic and timeless. And my rings with the smoky
diamonds make a statement and are conversation pieces.

An Evening in Wonderland

On Saturday October 17th, the Beckstrand Cancer Foundation hosted their annual Diamond and Pearl Ball at the Balboa Bay Club & Resort. The foundation celebrated it's patrons with "An Evening in Wonderland" gala. Beckstrand Cancer Foundation has raised support for cancer patients and their families since 1974.

Kirsten Prosser, owner and visionary of onQueStyle, also serves as Beckstrand's gala chairwoman. She has worked to raise funds and support the foundation for the past five years. Kirsten was honored as The Queen of The Diamond and Pearl Ball helping to raise of millions dollars for the charity.
